There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go, no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone ...

Getting Here from There

I have had a long fascination with my formative years. I felt that something important had occurred, that I had lived through a process of change on multiple levels in a very short time. When I tried to quantify what that was I was frustrated that I could not put it into words. I did not have a way to make sense of it without getting some distance in time and space.

Looking back at these events from 30 years on I can finally see the larger theme of finding my place in the world unifying the many threads. That story is as old as the earth and has launched a thousand folk tales — and so it launches mine.
